The government through the Ministry of Education has boosted the 15 billion tree planting initiative by incorporating schools in its bid.

This, according to the experts, will incorporate learners, teachers and non-teaching staff in learning institutions hence increasing the number of trees to be planted across all 47 counties.

Among those included are learners with Disability which according to Benjamin Njoroge, the Principal at Dagoreti Special School, is the best way to go.

“The tree planting activity we have seen in our institution today is of great importance. It is unique to our learners as it sharpens their skills, keeps them active and makes them healthy. Some trees we planted today are a good source of fruits,” said Njoroge.

Njoroge’s remarks were backed by Rafael Musyoki, the Sub-county Education director, who was the chief guest at the event.

“It is a very special day for all the stakeholders in the education sector. I thank our partners Furaha and Baraka Farms for availing tree seedlings to us on time. We are hopeful that our activity today will be an eye opener to all learning intuition in all the 47 counties,” he said.

Mwero together with the Farms Finance Director Felix Kimani helped several pupils with disability plant trees.

He said that global warming and biodiversity can only be averted by tree planting and environmental conservation.

“By doing this, we are upholding the biblical teachings of conserving the environment. We fully support the government efforts of tree planting as it is key in the fight against climate change,” said Mwero.

He vowed to distribute as many seedlings as possible and help the state to achieve its objective of 15 billion trees.

His Farm has been key in supplying tree seedlings for planting in various parts of the country.
