Nairobi county has intensified its operation to reclaim grabbed land within the capital.

On Wednesday, Johnson Sakaja-led administration reclaimed grabbed prime public land at the Junction of Kiambu Road and Northern Bypass (four ways) from land grabbers.

Acting county secretary Patrick Analo stated that the 18 acres of land was public land earmarked for development.

"The private developers had developed two petrol stations, car bazaars, eateries, beauty shops, pharmacies, and other businesses," he said.

The county enforcement officers with the assistance of police visited the place as they issued a demolition notice against the illegal structure.

Analo revealed that the land will be used to develop public utility such as market, school, hospital, health facility, football pitch and social hall.

Chief Officer for Lands Cecilia Koigu revealed that upon the expiry of the notice, the county will demolish the structure in accordance to the Physical and Land Use Planning Act (PLUPA 2019) and the building code.

Governor Sakaja has already established a task force of county officials with support from the National Lands Commission, which is tasked with identifying and reposessing all public land in various parts of the capital.

City hall recently demolished an illegal nursery school in Upperhill and has also stopped all illegal development on public land in Tassia, Clay city and  Kimathi estate in Eastlands.

"We call upon city dwellers with information on public land grabbed to volunteer to county government so that it is repossessed and developed for public use," Analo added.

 Nairobi County Build, Environment and Urban Planning sector has rolled out development plan to help deter land grabbing, evict land grabbers from public properties and regulate on encroachment of buildings.

All developers within the county are required to submit drawings to physical planning sector for approval, stream revenue and promote authentication of properties before proceeding with construction.
