Nairobi County Governor Johnson Sakaja has launched the construction of the first public clinic in Mlango Kubwa, Mathare constituency.
Speaking during the groundbreaking of the project, Sakaja said the clinic would help the locals who were being forced to seek the same services elsewhere.
“We are going to ensure that this hospital is well equipped with staff, equipment and drugs so that it can serve resident’s needs. The facility will also have a maternity wing where our women will be served during the treatment," he said.
About 7,000 people living at Mlango Kubwa are set to benefit from a health facility.
In a historic move, the county government has rehabilitated a dumpsite in the area, on which the facility will be built.
The governor said that he has been keen to serve all residents of the city, despite many of the areas being led by opposition leaders.
The public clinic, once completed, will be the first in the area.
The county boss reiterated his commitment to serving the people of Nairobi regardless of who they voted for in the August 2022 polls.
He further urged leaders to put aside their differences and work for the benefit of all.
“I will not be derailed in my bid to deliver services in Nairobi by politics of division. I will work with every leader regardless of their party or affiliation,” he said.
The governor was accompanied by Nairobi Health CEC Susan Silantoi , Health Facilities Management Chief Officer Geofrey Omatoke Mosiria and Chief Officer for Disaster Bramwel Simiyu among others.
