Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has announced that construction works at Woodley stadium will soon resume after his administration brought on board a new contractor.
The county boss said the project had stalled owing to legal disputes with the initial contractor who he said has been sent packing.
Speaking on Saturday after meeting traders at Toi Market, Governor Sakaja said he is committed to ensuring the project is completed.
"We have brought in a new contractor and dismissed the previous one who was not meeting expectations. You will now see progress," he assured.
The assurance comes after a section of sportsmen and women expressed concerns about the delay in the construction of the stadium.
Some expressed concerns that the situation at the Stadium had put it at the risk of being grabbed by cartels.
But Sakaja on Saturday allayed the fears and said the stadium will be completed to enable the youths in the area to exercise their sporting talents.
The County Boss said his administration will involve the local community, especially the youth, in the construction process.
"Youths in this area will get the chance to work at the stadium, and we will provide them with jobs as soon as the project starts," Sakaja said.
Woodley Stadium is part of a broader initiative by the county government to enhance sports infrastructure in Nairobi.
The Woodley project is similar to the ongoing construction of Kihumbuini Stadium, which began in June.
"The resumption of work at Woodley Stadium is expected to not only provide much-needed recreational space but also boost the local economy through job creation and increased commercial activity," Sakaja said.
