Mbagathi County Referral Hospital, in collaboration with the Social Health Authority (SHA), is conducting a specialized surgical camp to provide life-changing hernia treatments for patients in need.
A hernia usually happens in one's abdomen or groin, when one of the organs pushes through the muscle or tissue that contains it.
It may look like an odd bulge that comes and goes during different activities or in different positions. It may cause symptoms such as discomfort or pain.
According to Dr. Alexander Irungu, the hospital’s CEO, the camp is performing an average of 10 surgeries daily, focusing on herniotomy for children and hernioplasty for adults.
“So far, 120 patients have been successfully booked for the procedures. Through SHA, we can cover the costs and also help patients register with SHA to understand its benefits,” Dr. Irungu said.
The Social Health Authority oversees the registration process, ensuring that all patients receive proper care before, during, and after surgery.
“This initiative is a testament to our commitment to providing quality healthcare under the leadership of our governor, Sakaja Johnson.
"Our partnership with SHA has streamlined patient registration and coordination, ensuring efficient service delivery,” Dr. Irungu added.
This surgical camp is providing much-needed relief to patients suffering from hernias.
