The Mwingi Level 4 Hospital has been rehabilitated for Sh100 million, Governor Julius Malombe has said.

He said when he took over the leadership of the county, the hospital was in a “shambolic, neglected and dying state”.

Malombe said the money was used to turn around the hospitals.

“When we visited to view bodies at the morgue with then Interior Principal Secretary Mutea Iringo, after the mass murder in Nyanyaa in 2013, there was a foul smell. Things are now different and I am impressed,” he said.

He spoke yesterday to Mwingi leaders and professionals at Mwingi Kenya Medical Training College campus next to the hospital.

Malombe said the county donated 5 acres to build the college.

The Sh70 million KMTC will be opened in September.

Malombe said is happy with the construction work at KMTC.

“We have met our part of the bargain as agreed with the KMTC board. The first batch of students should be in by September,” he said.

He said the KMTC board headed by former Kibwezi MP Philip Kaloki will liaise with the regulatory authority to inspect the facility.

Malombe was accompanied by Health executive Ruth Koki and assembly Health Committee chairperson Joyce Mutemi.

He said plans are underway to elevate Mwingi hospital to level 5 status.
