Police in Embu on Thursday nabbed fake Sh400,000 after a tip-off by the public.
Embu West subcounty Criminal Investigation boss Joshua Cheptoo said his officers seized the fake money from Michael Ndwiga in Kivwe village.
He said members of the public had told police that Ndwiga had a gun.
Speaking in his Embu town office, Cheptoo said officers raided Ndwiga’s house.
Police found him inside the house but no gun.
The CID boss said the officers instead found two wads of fake Sh1,000 notes, totalling Sh400,000.
Cheptoo said on interrogating Ndwiga, he told them he has been printing fake money, which he uses to buy goods and services.
He said Ndwiga did not disclose where he prints the fake money.
Cheptoo said they arrested him and he is being held at Embu police station.
He said Ndwiga will be taken to court.
The CID chief cautioned Embu residents to examine the Sh1,000 notes they come across to be sure it is not fake.
Cheptoo said the fake money could be circulating in the area. He asked anybody who gets fake money to report to police.
