Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi has urged parents and Quranic teachers to continue guiding the younger generation on morals and having a clear purpose in life.
He said Islamic schools play a very important role in the lives of children saying his administration will continue supporting the institutions.
“Our Islamic schools play a very important role in the lives of our children. They help in bringing up not only disciplined but morally upright children who will become important people in society in the future,” he said.
Speaking at Wajir stadium on Sunday when he graced the Inaugural Wajir County Quran Competition Prize giving ceremony, Abdullahi said strengthening Islamic centres would promote success, righteousness and high merit in the moral and educational spheres.
“As an administration, we have committed to support spiritual affairs, including madrassas and Quranic centres. Through them, many are successfully pursuing higher levels of education,” Abdullahi said.
He asked clerics to use their positions to promote peaceful co-existence among communities.
“Religion has shaped society across the world. Clerics reprimand and correct the mightiest in the society including the political class,” Abdullahi said.
“It is my appeal that you use this God-given position to make sure you do that which is right by pointing out the ills and shortcomings in the society which should include promoting peaceful co-existence among communities.”
The governor said parents cannot afford to neglect Islamic institutions by stopping to enrol their children urging them to inculcate good morals in them.
The governor congratulated and thanked all the participants of the three-day event among them Su’di Bare from Abakore, the overall winner who won the 30 Juzu category having memorized the Quran.
"Like everyone else, present in person or following the event virtually, I really felt proud of the young boys and girls who won in various Juzu categories for their excellent reading (Tajweed) and memorization of the Qur’an. I have extended my personal rewards to the winners as a motivation," said the Governor.
He gifted Su’di’s Mother and brother Hajj sponsorship to celebrate them for being integral to her success saying that this shall also inspire all that investment in the Quran pays.
Other leaders who graced the event were Senator Abass Sheikh, County Mp Fatuma Jehow, Tarbaj MP, Hussein Barre, Wajir East MP Adan Daud, County Commissioner Karuku Ngumo, County Speaker Abdille Yussuf, and other senior County officials.
