Guyo highlights Isiolo milestones achieved this year

Isiolo Governor Abdi Hassan Guyo marked  Jamhuri Day celebrations by highlighting his administration's achievements this year.

To mark Kenya at 60, Guyo was also awarded the Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart (E.G.H) by by President William Ruto. 

The award according to the governor, is in recognition of his contribution to devolution in terms of socio-economic development through the: provision of clean, safe and sustainable water to Isiolo people, empowerment of special groups.

"I want to take this opportunity to register my immense gratitude to President Ruto for the recognition. This is because of the great strides I have made to deliver quality albeit affordable health care services,  creation of a conducive environment for ECDE learners and working with his government to address the insecurity problem that had for long plagued our county," Guyo said.

Looking at the last year, the governor said his administration focused on reviving and completing stalled projects.

"My administration inherited several stalled projects. In this regard, as your governor, I wish to register my continued commitment to completing these projects," he said.

Guyo highlighted that the administration has in the last one year drilled seven new boreholes in Akadeli, Kakili, Kiwanja, LMD, Malkagalla, Lakole (in Merti) and Dadachabasa.

In the same vein, the county chief said the government undertook the rehabilitation of 27 boreholes, involving the replacement of motors, pumps, controllers, draw pipes, faulty cables, and other electro-mechanical equipment.

Additionally, the Isiolo county government also acquired three generators dedicated to boreholes in Boji and Merti.

"Addressing water supply challenges for our constituents, my administration has successfully rehabilitated and activated the NdunguZanguniEwaso turbine and Duse pipeline systems," Guyo said.

Moreover, in Oldonyiro, the county has overseen the refurbishment of an 800,000-litre water storage tank to further enhance our water infrastructure.

To actualise his vision of ensuring that all Isiolo residents have access to clean, reliable and affordable water by the year 2025, the Guyo-led administration formulated  a 15-year water strategy that will soon launch.

Also, the county has embarked on a Sh19.7 million  Sustainable Management and Access to Water & Sanitation in the ASALS Programme (SWASAP project that will benefit 1,700 households in Charri, Garbatulla and Sericho wards with both clean water and sanitation.

Land disputes

On land matters,  Guyo highlighted that his administration initiated the surveying process for 7,000 parcels of land in the historic town of Garbatula last month.

"I believe this undertaking will redefine and revitalise the economic landscape of the town, restoring its former status as a bustling business hub," he said.

Still on land issues, in addressing the longstanding land-related dispute between the residents of Burat and the KDF, the governor in collaboration with other elected leaders, engaged in discussions with KDF  leadership.

"A commitment was made to finding a lasting solution to this issue. I urge everyone to exercise patience throughout this process, we will ultimately achieve a sustainable and conclusive solution," Guyo said.

Food security

On food security and accessibility to government services within the agricultural sector, the governor said his administration, in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture and Livestock, successfully partnered with the National government to enrol 35,861 herders and agro-pastoralists onto the Kenya Integrated Agricultural Management System in the county.

KIAMIS stands as a pivotal digitised central database for farmers and pastoralists, poised to enhance E-extension services and furnish our herders with information regarding the prices of various commodities, including vaccines.

"In light of this, I encourage those who may have missed the initial registration to reach out to the relevant department for assistance," Guyo added.

Food distribution

In response to the ongoing challenges posed by the El Niño effects, Isiolo county government has distributed 268.392 Metric tonnes of relief food to 11,084 households in 172 village.

Also, the county has conducted urgent medical airlifts and provided life support to communities in Malkagala, Bassa, Iresaboru, and Sericho areas that were inaccessible by road.

In collaboration with development partners and humanitarian organisations such as the Kenya Red Cross, Isiolo has furnished safety and dignity kits to numerous affected families.

"To address not only the immediate needs but also to proactively devise sustainable solutions for mitigating the repercussions of such natural disasters in the future, we are working diligently," Guyo said.

"I also want to reassure all residents of our great county that our commitment to the revitalisation and reconstruction of damaged essential infrastructure remains unwavering," he added.
