Marsabit woman representative Naomi Jillo Wako now wants political leaders in the county to shun early campaigns.
Speaking during a New Year party organized by Goro Rukesa youths on Sunday, Wako said some politicians in the county have been engaging in 2027 campaigns at the expense of development.
"Politicians should tone down on politics. It's not fair to always have politics of confrontation from one political period to another without giving room for development," Wako said.
She urged youths to avoid making politics a do-or-die game adding that they should stop fighting amongst each other for the sake of a few selfish leaders.
She told off those who are pushing her to declare her interest in Marsabit's gubernatorial seat come 2027 saying she is focused on delivering her mandate to the people.
She further urged political leaders to shun advancing politics of hatred and instead put aside their differences and work together to ensure they meet the interests of the citizens.
"Election is not all about abuse or hatred, it is about dynamics. I call upon my fellow leaders to exercise love and unity," she said.
She said she will continue working with other leaders in bettering the lives of the locals.
The deputy chief whip vowed to continue supporting talent among the youth in the county besides encouraging them to acquire quality education through the provision of bursaries.
She promised to be proactive in assisting youth to harness their various talents which she noted was not only good for the county's economy.
"Drug addiction and engagement in crime among youth is partly a result of failure by leaders to offer both moral and material support to talented youths," said Deputy Chief Whip.
The women's representative called on the citizens to shun violence and embrace peace and unity for sustainable development.
She noted that only a peaceful atmosphere could guarantee meaningful development and socioeconomic prosperity for all.
She implored the women in the county to have more children and raise them as communists, emphasizing the importance of reversing the county's declining birth rates.
She assured residents of equal and better services under her leadership.
"I want to assure the people of Marsabit county that I am going to offer them services irrespective of who they voted for." She said
Sagante Jaldesa ward MCA Amos Wako said the recent drilling of boreholes in the area will increase access to clean water in rural areas.
He said adequate water supply among households in the community will promote increased agricultural productivity and advance food security.
He lauded the county government for supporting the drilling of boreholes, saying the residents have been traveling long distances in search of clean water, especially during the dry season.
The minority leader in the county assembly assured residents that he would embark on road rehabilitation to ensure that all the roads within the ward were passable.
Marsabit County principal administrative secretary Godfrey Godana said the administration of Governor Mohamud Ali is committed to ensuring that public servants operate in professional manners and act with a sense of urgency in the provision of services to the people.
He said the commitment to the idea of excellence in service delivery is a powerful force in building trust with the public but requires a fundamental shift in mindset.
He said Governor Mohamud's administration has already anchored youth empowerment in the development agenda and has been able to tailor-make unique programs relevant to them.
" We will provide the necessary support, resources, and platforms for the young people. Let us embark on this journey that is energized by the vibrant spirit of our youth," he said
Former Saku MP aspirant Adan Wario called on elders to bring back the community gathering so that issues affecting the community to be discussed in the meeting.
He blamed the elders for engaging politicians who didn't want the community gathering and challenged them to put the interest and welfare of the community first before anything else.
Youth leader Salim Roba urged young people to shun tribalism and clans saying it would only benefit politicians, not unemployed youths, and advised them not to be misused by selfish leaders for their interest.
He asked the MP to help residents secure more employment opportunities in the Kenya Kwanza government.
