NYAMIRA Governor, John Nyagarama, speaking at Uhuru Gardens in Nyamira town the county has made remarkable progress despite the many challenges the county has faced.

Nyagarama aksed the national government to transfer more services including roads to counties adding that the few functions already transferred to counties have recorded major successes within the past two years.

On roads, Nyagarama said his government has opened up several access roads and upgraded 240 kilometers of roads.

“The ultimate objective of our County Government is to improve over 500 kms

of roads before the end of the five-year term,” he added.

He said his government recently acquired equipments for roads upgrades.

“Additionally, our County received some road construction equipment from the National Government stores shared out among all counties,” added Nyagarama.

He announced that plans are underway to construct county government headquarters. Currently, the county government is housed by the national government at the former Nyamira district headquarters.

On health, he said Doctor’s Plaza with a 72 bed amenity wing to enable medical personnel provide consultancy services is undergoing the procurement process.

He said an assortment of specialized equipment is in the high seas to Nyamira following high level delegations that visited Finland, Germany, USA, and the Czech Republic.

The governor said a CT-scan installed at the district hospital was serving people from the entire western Kenya region.

He said the county government is partnering with the Kenya Commercial Bank, to set up a renal dialysis unit.

Nyagarama further noted that the county government has renovated and equipped 64 health facilities across the County.

The governor announced that the Nyamira and Keroka townships water supplies are undergoing major rehabilitation works to boost water supply to their consumers and those of the environs.

He said that major street lighting of

major towns and trading centers has been initiated.

“During the last financial year, 100 street lights were installed in 21 centers and 100 more will be put up in the next financial year. This has had positive impacts on trade, security and safety,” he added.

He said the county government is constructing several market structures across the county starting with eight new modern markets in Magombo, Girango, Keroka, Nyabite, Mosobeti, Mokomoni, Ikonge, and Magwagwa.
