Kisumu county assembly has resumed its sessions.
The first sitting presided over by speaker Elisha Oraro on Tuesday afternoon witnessed the swearing-in of the house top leadership.
According to the speaker, on September 8 this year, he received a communication from ODM of the election of the MCAs to various house leadership positions.
In his communication, Ken Ooko (Ahero ward) is the leader of majority, Owade Patrick Lumumba (South East Nyakach ward) is the deputy majority leader and Seth Kanga Market/Milimani ward) is the majority whip.
MCA South West Kisumu MCA Jennifer Obonyo is the assembly deputy majority whip.
However, the speaker made a determination that there is no minority party in the assembly as currently constituted since there is no other party represented in the house other than ODM.
"Although the assembly recognises the presence of Bill Oliver as an independent candidate and not elected from a minority party as recognised by our standing orders and the Registrar of Political Parties," he said.
According to Oraro, the house was adjourned two weeks ago to allow members attend the induction exercise, which was organised by the transition committee in conjunction with the office of the clerk.
"I am pleased that we have had a very fruitful engagement while attending this workshop and I believe that we are now in a better position to carry out our duties," he said.
"I am pleased that all members were present and actively participated in the workshop. This is a sign of commitment that this third assembly has set from the onset, and may we keep up that spirit."
Ooko, who thanked the party for his position and electorate for giving him a second term, said he would not let his people down, adding that he would strive to serve the interest of ODM party.
He further said that campaigns have now come to an end and it was time for them to work for the people of Kisumu.
