Elected leaders and the clergy in Nyamira have called for speedy investigations into the death of Rangenyo Girls School principal who died last week.

The leaders and clergy said everything must be done to establish the cause of death of Lydiah Onyoni who was found unconscious in her house within the school compound.

During a special prayers held at the institution on Sunday, Kisii Catholic Bishop Joseph Mairura said the clergy and residents would not rest until suspects are brought to book, hence called on investigating agencies to speed up their investigations.

“We want to know what happened, who did it and how it happened, since this is a parent who is charge of thousands of our children in the school. We do not have anything to tell the students, only the authorities will help us get the truth of the matter,” Mairura said during the mass.

He asked President William Ruto to intervene and ensure  investigating agencies look into the matter so that the real issue can be brought to the light.

“This is the first ugly incident to be witnessed under your reign, we know you are a capable President who is able to deal with any issue coming to us. We urge the President to help us deal with this issue,” Mairura said.

Nyamira South subcounty police commander Moses Kirong said he received a phone call at 9.30pm and was told that Onyoni had been found unconscious in her bedroom at 7pm.

“She was taken to Kisii Oasis Hospital where she was attended to until around 8pm last evening when she passed on. Her body was taken to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary,” he said.

West Mugirango MP Stephen Mogaka said the remaining part is to be done by the government through investigating agencies to bring out the truth behind the death of the principal. Mogaka called for speedy investigations.

“We will allow the police to do their part and bring the culprits to book, but we urge them to speed up the process so that the family, community, students and the entire county can know who is behind this unfortunate incident,” Mogaka said.

Woman Representative Jerusha Momanyi said it is very unfortunate for such a hard working person to die under unclear circumstances and said the truth will finally be known after the police conclude investigations.

“When we hear that such a hard working woman has been murdered in her house, we get worried because the principal was the role model of this girls and women in our society. We will follow this matter until its end to get the truth,” Momanyi said.
