Kenya's ruling party, UDA has continued putting its structures and registering residents in Homa Bay to enhance its strength in preparations for the 2027 general election.

The modalities are part of the President William Ruto-led party agenda of infiltrating the counties perceived to be a stronghold of the ODM party.

UDA allied supporters are undertaking the activities of electing its youth league officials at constituency and ward levels to enable the party to have its structures from the grassroots.

They have elected and installed officials in Karachuonyo and Suba South constituencies.

The Suba South in which they held the exercise Saturday saw Calvin Oyier elected the party youth league constituency chairman.

Edwin Okoth was elected the vice chairman while Joshua Magadi and Ruth Adhiambo were elected secretary and treasurer respectively among other officials.

Such elections were also done in the four wards in the constituency. The wards are Gwassi North where Elvis Nyanga was elected the youth league chairman, Kennedy Obado (Kaksingri West Ward), Victor Oore (Ruma Kasingri East) and Joseph Owino (Gwassi South).

Homa Bay County UDA youth league chairman Kevin Ouma, Organizing Secretary Evans Oloo, Secretary Wayne Odote and assistant coordinator Kennedy Ongati presided over the elections.

He said the elections are aimed at putting structures in place to ensure UDA entrenches its roots in the county.

“The election and installation of the officials go hand in hand with the registration of people into UDA party. The officials are expected to promote the interest of the party from polling stations to the county level,” Ouma noted.

Speaking at a hotel in Magunga town, the officials said they are committed to strengthening UDA in Homa Bay.

He added that the party officials are also charged with recruiting UDA members in their jurisdictions.

They will go to other constituencies starting with Kasipul, Suba North, Kabondo Kasipul, Ndhiwa, Rangwe and Homa Bay Town.

Organizing Secretary Evans Oloo said they are strengthening UDA in Homa Bay to provide alternative leadership so that residents stop relying on the ODM party alone.

He argued that they will achieve this by ensuring UDA gets elective seats in Homa Bay.

“There is need to have an alternative political leadership in Homa Bay. The county assembly of Homa Bay shouldn’t be continually dominated by MCAs from a single political party,” Oloo said.

UDA expects to get people who will contest MP seats in all eight constituencies in Homa Bay and promote the politics of development.

“Our vision is to ensure UDA gets as many seats as possible in the county come 2027,” Oloo added.
