Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga wants members of the county executive to develop a positive attitude for effective and efficient service delivery to people.
Wanga said she has received reports that some officers are arrogant and do not attend to members of the public who need services from their offices.
Some residents have reportedly told the governor that some of her officers also switch off their phones and are unreachable when needed to discharge their duties.
The officers are accused of underperformance in their dockets because they are inaccessible to members of the public.
"Our sole mandate is to serve the public and if they can’t access and tell you the problems in your docket to improve on. then you better search for another place if you can't change. I hear some are arrogant while others switch off their phones to become inaccessible," Wanga said.
Speaking during swearing in of 15 new chief officers at the county headquarters in Homa Bay town on Monday, the governor together with her deputy Oyugi Magwanga asked her officers to change their attitude to create a good rapport with the public.
The chief officers include former Homa Bay deputy speaker Elias Orondo who took oath as the chief officer for investment, journalist Isaac Ongiri (Devolution), Judith Ombok (Gender), Diana Ongere (Mining), Kennedy Ojala (Stakeholder management), Jack Obonyo ( Fisheries), Hanningtone Day (Lands) among other chief officers.
Members of the Homa Bay County Investment and Development Corporation Board were also sworn in.
Present were Homa Bay County assembly speaker Julius Gaya and Majority Leader Richard Ogindo.
Wanga told county government officials to avoid the mentality that working in a county government is an avenue for minting money as she issued a warning against corruption in her administration.
"The belief that working in a county government is synonymous with making money is gone. I don’t expect our officers to engage in such corruption deals," she added.
The chief officers were urged to focus on service delivery to accomplish the development agenda in Homa Bay.
She said her administration is committed to the implementation of development projects in the county, adding that the officers should focus on creating a conducive environment for investment in Homa Bay.
"Chief officers should be people who sit in offices. They should visit communities in villages to ensure implementation of projects takes place successfully," she said.
"Homa Bay should be a destination for investment. Let’s put efforts into attracting investors," Wanga added.
Magwanga told the officers to work hard in improving the county's ranking in development.
Homa Bay has on several occasions ranked low in development performance.
"Let us put concerted efforts aimed at ensuring our county ranks higher on development," Magwanga said.
Gaya and Ogindo asked the officers to turn up whenever they are called upon by the county assembly.
