Lawyers in Kisii were Thursday tear-gased cutting short a planned demo against county lands boss Charles Ayienda.
The lawyers had spilled into the streets early Thursday to demand the transfer of the County lands boss when police in riot gear forced them to disperse.
Several tear gas canisters were lobbed at them as they walked through the streets with banners.
The lawyers say they are unhappy with some of the changes Ayienda has made in the regional lands office since his transfer to the region months ago.
They are especially against the orders demanding them to produce a court order for issuance of certified copies of documents including but not limited to registry index maps and mutations during land search.
They are also required to produce the original gazette notices, documents used for conducting the succession process and the presence of beneficiaries.
The demands are contained in a two-page petition submitted to Ayienda on Friday last week
George Morara, a lawyer, said they will be protesting against Ayienda till the government deploys him elsewhere.
"Today is the second and we shall not slow down till he is moved, Ayienda must go," he told journalists during a press conference.
He accused the police of brutality for disrupting the protest.
"We had given them adequate notice of this demonstration and it defeats logic that we are being teargassed by the police," Morara said.
The Thursday protest was the second in less than two weeks.
During the protest last Friday, the lawyers accused Ayienda of calling them fraudsters during a meeting with him.
"We are not fraudsters, we must be respected as lawyers, he must pack and go, "Moraa told journalists.
Polycarp Maroko, the main petitioner seeking the removal of Ayienda said they are unable to deal with emergencies because of the unavailability of certain documents from Ayienda.
The Lands Registry boss has since vowed to forge on with reforms amid protests.
On Friday, he said he will continue standing his ground adding that he will not be intimidated from executing any changes at the registry.
"Together with these lawyers who have come here we should agree with them that 80 per cent of the files here are fake and we must pull efforts together to deal with them," Ayienda said.
The lawyers have since vowed to protest every week on Fridays till the officer is transferred.
