Kisumu Journalists Network (KJN) have strongly condemned the attack on its members while in the line of duty in the Azimio anti-government protests.
According to KJN chairman Rushdie Oudia, such attacks targeting the media have been perpetrated by both members of the public and the police.
"Today, Standard Group photojournalist Collins Oduor was brutally attacked and injured by police officers in Kisumu. During the last demonstrations, another freelance journalist James Keyi lost his camera to goons," Oudia said.
He demanded that the attacks must now stop and journalists be allowed to execute their work without any interference.
"We call upon the Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome and the Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki to move with speed and contain their officers," he said.
Oudia also demanded that the organisers of the protests should control their supporters and advise them against targeting journalists.
As a network, he said they are looking at the situation keenly and they will weigh their next options including keeping off the protest, seeking legal redress and compensation.
