Leaders within the Jua Kali area have condemned the incident that led to the destruction of property of unknown value in the area on Wednesday.
Shops, cars and other assorted goods were razed in an inferno whose cause is yet established during the Azimio anti-government protest in Kisumu.
Railways ward MCA Sammy Onyango alleged that the firefighters arrived late when the fire had consumed a number of kiosks.
He said it was unfortunate that this was the second time the shops were torched during demonstrations.
"Our people have lost valuables in this fire, barely two months ago we had another fire and with these hard economic times this is a great loss," Onyango said.
He said some of those affected had loans that they were servicing amongst other needs.
A resident, John Ochieng noted that only a few people managed to salvage their property before the fire spread across.
Ochieng noted that others who were not lucky watched as their wares burnt down.
When the Kisumu County firefighters arrived, they put off the fire and were also assisted by a police water canon which was patrolling the area.
