A family in Homa Bay wants the police to expedite investigations after their relative was burned to death in his house by unknown people.

Joseph Nyambok, who was a boda boda rider, was killed when unknown suspected criminals stormed his house and burned him.

The incident occurred on July 13 at Lala village in Arujo location, Homa Bay Town constituency. Persons still at large stormed the house where Nyambok was asleep together with his wife and children.

His wife Violet Adhiambo said her family has not been at ease after the incident as they asked for a speedy justice. Her husband was dragged outside the house while unconscious before they set fire on him, she said.

“They broke into our house and ordered my husband to give his M-Pesa pin number. When he resisted they beat him unconscious and wrapped him with a cloth and set him ablaze,” Adhiambo said.

On Wednesday, a cousin of the deceased, Dickson Orimba, said they wished to see police apprehend the killers before Nyambok is buried.

He said the family is still frustrated because of the ordeal.

They want quick police assistance as they seek psychosocial support.

“The deceased was the breadwinner in the family. His death has caused a huge economic setback to the family,” Orimba said.

Homa Bay county principal chief Joshua Ochogo said the matter was reported to police for investigations.

The administrator said they have not established why the man was killed.

“They took two mobile phones before leaving. The mission of the gang was not to steal,” Ochogo said.

Homa Bay subcounty police commander Peter Maluki said investigations into the incident were ongoing.

“Let members of the public share any information they have about the whereabouts of the suspects. We’re undertaking investigations to catch up with the suspects,” Maluki said.
