Agoro Sare boys’ football team has the full backing of the Homa Bay county government in the national KSSA.
The team qualified for the national Kenya Secondary School Sports Association (KSSA) competition after emerging victorious in the Nyanza Regional championship.
Governor Gladys Wanga said the county was hoping for the Nyanza regional men football champions to win the KSSA football national title.
“The team has put Homa Bay on the top regionally. You have our full support and we're hopeful you will bring us the national trophy,” she saidon Friday.
The Governor revealed that Agoro Sare has the capacity to triumph over other teams because Nyanza region has a history of winning the trophy and producing best soccer players.
Homa Bay is the home of renowned football player Michael Olunga and the home of twenty times Kenya Premier League winner Gor Mahia.
Governor Wanga was in the company of her deputy Oyugi Magwanga, Homa Bay county secretary Benard Muok, Sports executive Sarah Malit among others.
The team was awarded sh66,000 to buy soccer boots.
“Homa Bay and probably the entire Nyanza take pride in your victory. Using your slogan One Team One Fight you have the potential to bring the national trophy home,” Wanga added.
DG Magwanga asked the national team representatives from the county to maintain high discipline for their success.
He told the teams to understand that they have their support.
“Commit yourselves to discipline and dedication to enable you to win against opponents,” Magwanga said.
The Governor took the opportunity to announce that her administration will increase the county bursary kitty from sh2.5m to sh4m per ward. Homa Bay has a total of 40 wards.
“We have also allocated sh6m to improve ECD centers in each ward,” Wanga said.
