Police in Kabondo Kasipul are investigating an incident where a woman and her two-year-old child were killed in their house Friday morning.

The woman's husband who has since disappeared following the incident at Kodwar B village is considered the key suspect.

The woman is said to had stayed with the man for two weeks before the twin murders.

The woman identified as Michele Awuoro was slashed on the neck and head before she died.

Her body and that of her child were found lying in a pool of blood on a mattress in the suspect’s house.

The victim’s mother-in-law was the one who found the bodies after the deceased failed to answer her calls.

Awuoro is said to have gone to live with the man at his parents’ home in Kodumo East Sublocation two weeks ago.

By the time of her death, not so many villagers had known her.

Kodumo East Sublocation Assistant Chief Denis Abongo said the suspect works as a casual labourer in Sondu Town.

"Many people were surprised about the death because the couple did not show any signs of disagreement before the suspected murder incidents,” Abongo said.

He added that no one reported hearing any commotion on Thursday night, hours before the bodies were discovered.

The woman together with the man had a meal at night at her mother-in-law's house before they went to sleep.

The genesis of the disagreement between the couple is still unknown.

Abongo said Awuoro's mother-in-law went to wake her up.

"She knocked on the door but there was no response. She then decided to get into the house and was shocked to see the bodies lying in a pool of blood,” Abong’o said.

Homa Bay County Police Commander Samson Kinne said investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Kinne said the man on the run is believed to be the one who committed the crime.

He said he will be questioned after his arrest.

The bodies were moved to Rachuonyo South Sub-County Hospital mortuary.
