Immediate former Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga now wants ex-governors to be appointed ex-officio members of county assemblies.
Rasanga who served as Siaya's chief executive for 10 years since 2013 said the law should be amended to allow the ex-governors to sit in the county assemblies.
The former governor who was succeeded by governor James Orengo said having been at the helm of the devolved units, they can be best utilised to arbitrate between the assembly and the executive whenever there are contentious issues.
"We know that oftentimes, the assembly and the executive don't agree on some issues, particularly on the passage of the budgets," he said.
"If the former Governors are made ex-officio members, they can help unlock such deadlocks," Rasanga said.
He added:
"We already have many ex-governors since the advent of devolution. They need to be fully engaged. We need to tap into a wealth of leadership experience."
Additionally, Rasanga proposed that the former Governors can also be the voice of reason besides playing the arbitration role whenever there is contention between the executive and the assembly.
Rasanga at the same time appealed to Kenyan parents to educate their children to the highest level possible.
He also appealed to them to ensure they set good moral standards for the young ones.
"If you work hard and set good examples for your children, they will follow your footsteps," Rasanga noted.
He also advised his former colleagues not to despise or look down upon any political seat.
He said he was ready to serve in whatever capacity, even as an MCA.
"Do not feel too bossy or too senior to serve in whatever capacity just because you are more educated or powerful because you have served top political positions," he added.
He said that as governor, he dedicated fully, his time and energy to serving the people.
"I stopped all my business activities and interests to deliver effectively to our people. That is what all elected leaders should be encouraged to do while in office," Rasanga advised.
Rasanga was speaking in Kisumu on Saturday during a ceremony in honor of immediate former South East Alego MCA Joseph Mboha who graduated from Maseno University on Friday with a Masters in research and Public policy.
