Celebrations rock Nyanza schools after KCSE results release

Teachers attributed good results to hard work, dedicated staff and God.

Celebrations rocked schools in Nyanza after posting outstanding results in the 2023 KCSE released on Monday by Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu.

It was all jubilation at Maseno School after they recorded excellent results with 36 candidates scoring A plain, and 126 getting A minus in the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examinations.

Out of the 523 candidates who sat exams, four scored A plain of 84 points— Enock Okoth, Brian Mbanda, Victor Ochieng and Hannington Ouma.

Okoth scored straight As in all the subjects. The school deputy principal Peter Nyawach said 114 got B+, 121 B, 77 B-, C+ 37, C 9 and 3 C-.

Nyawach said Okoth was good in both languages, sciences and humanities which enabled him to score all As.

"We had anticipated that Okoth would score a plain of 84 points because in Mock exams he scored A plain of 84 points, something that no students had ever got in Mock," he said.

Nyawach said they have done much better in the exams terming it a breakthrough for the school.

"We aim to place our students in the most competitive courses in universities and TVETs which we have achieved," he said.

With the exemplary results, the deputy principal said the transition rate stands at 99.71 per cent to university.

The school attained a mean score of 9.543 of B + (plus).

In terms of subject performances, he said the school registered an improvement in Sciences such as Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

Nyawach attributed the results to God, early syllabus coverage, discipline and dedication from the students.

Besides dedicated staff, he also attributed the good results to the well-structured motive in strategy.

Nyawach said the school will register 721 candidates and expect better results in 2024 KCSE. 

In 2022, the school had 552 candidates who sat KCSE and scored a mean score of 9.5.  One of the best candidates, Adrian Wenner Otieno, who scored A plain of 84 points, wants to become a neurosurgeon.

He thanked teachers, the school administration and fellow candidates for the hard work which saw them record the best results.

Otieno hopes to join the University of Nairobi.

“The results were bliss," he added.

Chemelil Sugar Academy in Muhoroni subcounty, Kisumu county,  it was a joy as teachers, students and teachers took to the streets to celebrate the good results.

The academy attained a mean score of 9.89 with 100 per cent transition to university and college.

Out of the 113 entries in 2023, three candidates scored A plain, A- (28), B plus (45), B (27) and B minus (10).

Academy’s chief principal Samora Abisai lauded teachers, students and stakeholders for the good results.

He said the staff and students have always been committed to their studies.

Chemelil Sugar Company will host a luncheon for the students, candidates, teachers and subordinate staff.

In Siaya county, Rang’ala Girls High School with 675 who sat exams, 661 scored C+ and above.

The school had one candidate who got A plain, 55 A-, 203 B+, B 225, B- 131, C+ 46, C 8 and three candidates with C-.

School Chief Principal Susan Akoth said the school recorded a mean score of 9.08 a positive deviation of 0.865, an exemplary performance. 

In 2022, the school had a mean score of 8.215.  A total of 508 candidates sat exams.

Akoth lauded dedicated teachers, students and support from the parents who saw them perform well in the exams.

The principal said the candidates were very disciplined and committed to their studies.

"We are very happy with the results and expect better results in the future. Our school is spiritually oriented, we put God first,” Akoth said.

The teachers, she said, sacrifice a lot in teaching the students. “We always undertake topical revision,” Akoth said.

She praised the board of management and other stakeholders for the peace they have accorded the school.
