Kabondo Kasipul constituency is constructing new classrooms in dilapidated primary schools to improve the environment for learning and academic standards in the area.

Through the National Government-Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF), the constituency is demolishing very dilapidated classrooms in schools and constructing them afresh.

But the classrooms that are still strong are improved through renovation.

The project has seen all classrooms constructed at Kotienditi, Nyasore, Kolweny, Kakelo Mixed and Kojwach primary schools.  The construction has cost more than Sh32 million.

On Wednesday, Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, Kabondo Kasipul MP Eve Obara and her Kasipul counterpart Ong’ondo Were officially opened the classrooms for use as students open schools for term one.

Obara explained that she started the project to create a conducive environment for improving academic performance in the constituency.

She argued that learning in a clean and safe environment cushions children from contracting diseases which interfere with their academic performance.

“Diseases such flu, cholera and other respiratory infections affect children when they sit in a filthy and un-conducive environment. Constructing the classrooms to the required standards will cushion children from such diseases,” Obara said.

Speaking at Kotienditi primary school in the constituency, the MP said this will impact the children’s academic performance positively.

“The clean learning environment also improves factors which boost academic performance,” she added.

Wanga and MP Were hailed the project saying it will enable Homa Bay County to have productive people in future.

The governor said the classrooms will boost the quality of education in the area.

She explained that the best way to have a country with many productive people is to invest in education.

“Education is a key pillar in the development of the society. This project will boost academic standards which will improve the lives of Homa Bay children,” Wanga said.

The county chief said her administration is working together with all members of parliament in Homa Bay to promote education and other projects which improve the lives of the people.

She called for concerted efforts among elected leaders to enable the county residents to develop.

“Working together as leaders will enable us to help children and the people of this county,” Wanga said.

MP Were asked residents to support their leaders in promoting education to enable children in the area to become successful people in future.

“Impact the education projects being done to today will be felt in future. I urge residents to be supportive to enable them to get the services they deserve,” Were said.
