Students of Riomego Boarding Primary School in Nyamira County are yet again counting losses on Saturday after fire razed their domitory for the third time within 72 hours.
The school reportedly experienced fire incidents on Thursday at 3:00 pm, while another dormitory caught fire on the same day at 7 pm.
Confirming the incident on Thursday, February 1, the Kenya Red Cross said the fire was reported at around 3 pm
"Riomego Boarding School in Nyamira County is facing a fire emergency. Our response team is actively engaged in response efforts and working to address the situation," Red Cross said in a statement on X.
The Saturday incident was the third case destroying the dormitory, even as authorities moved in to investigate the cause of the fires.
During the Saturday incident, fire engines from the county saved the day after arriving in time to contain the inferno.
Leaders have called for thorough investigations over the incident, which has now left learners with losses and fear.
"We want to know the root cause of such incidents. We cannot have a single institution go on fire three times in less than two days. Something must be wrong somewhere," a politician named Adams Mochenwa said.
The school management and education officials were, however, yet to speak on the same by the time of going to press.
