Ugenya MP David Ochieng has suggested that President William Ruto consider replacing underperforming cabinet secretaries with more competent individuals.
He emphasized that Ruto should be bold enough to sack those who are not delivering in their dockets and replace them with capable Kenyans.
Ochieng who is also the leader of the Movement for Democracy and Growth (MDG) party, highlighted the need for effective individuals who can help Ruto run the government for better service delivery to Kenyans.
He made these remarks during the third county MDG delegates convention, which brought together over 2,500 delegates from the seven sub-counties in Kisumu on Friday.
The meeting is part of the membership recruitment drive that began early this month.
On the recent demos, Ochieng praised the youths for taking bold steps to oppose the Finance Bill 2024 and welcomed them to join the MDG party for the change that they are yearning for.
“We salute and love you for your courage. You came out to express yourselves on issues affecting you, something that should have been done by those in leadership,” he said.
The party leader noted that he learnt a lesson and going forward, he will listen to the voices of the young people in the country.
Ochieng said the president should listen to Kenyans, especially on high taxation which is burdening them.
While acknowledging that the current government was grappling with a turf economic situation, Ochieng urged Ruto’s economic advisors that Kenyans need economic consolidation and not fragmentation.
“We are looking for economic predictability and not economic ping pong. Kenyans should feel the economic policies put in place are not burdening them," he added.
Ochieng also called on Kenyans to shun divisive and ethnic politics that have derailed the country’s unity and economic growth.
He alleged the cabinet is currently dominated by two regions, saying 13 out of 22 are from the same regions.
“You cannot develop a country with this trend. We want an all-inclusive government devoid of ethnicity and irrespective of political affiliation. Ethnicity is the major problem in this country,” he said.
Similar MDG conventions have been held in Siaya and Kakamega counties as Ochieng embarks on a countrywide membership recruitment drive.
In Kakamega, 3,000 delegates drawn from the 12 constituencies attended.
The Kisumu convention comes barely two days after Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi announced that his ANC party would dissolve with Ruto’s UDA.
Ochieng said his party will not fold and instead strengthen its support base and elect new office bearers in readiness for 2027 General Election despite MDG being a member of the governing Kenya Kwanza coalition.
