Residents of Lichota-Suna West subcounty,  have expressed  gratitude to the Kenya Wildlife Services for capturing a hyena that had been causing them sleepless nights.

This comes after several attempts by the KWS to trap the wild hyena that had been feeding on their cattle, goat and sheep.

Since July this year, the KWS has been setting traps in the Lichota area after the residents complained about the wild animal presence and the hyena invasion.

Stephen Kaunda, a resident, disclosed that the presence of hyenas in the area had caused them sleepless nights that forced them to watch over their flocks.

The residents praised KWS's efforts in capturing the hyena, particularly as schools reopened for the third term.

“Our young students attend school early in the morning, and the presence of a roaming hyena could have been dangerous and unsafe,” Kaunda said.

Migori has set a plan and allocated a budget to fence off the Lichota forest.

This is to deter the encroachment of wild animals such as hyenas into residential areas.
