Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from Migori who were affected by the 2007/2008 Post-Election Violence have urged the government to expedite their compensation.

Chairperson for IDPs and former councillor from Olkaria Ward in Nakuru Nashon Oriema said 4,218 victims from the county are yet to be compensated.

Oriema said it is important to ensure all affected individuals benefit from the allocated funds.

He said many people lost their loved ones and despite funds being allocated, many like himself have not received any compensation.

His call for action was supported by fellow victims Paul Ouma, Catherine Robi, Chacha Kimwamu and Mwita Chacha who implored the government to treat victims from Migori equally to those from other regions.

Ouma, who lost one eye during the violence said he wonders why people from Migori have not been paid while others have already received their compensation.

In 2016, the government released Sh1 billion to conclude the resettlement of all the remaining IDPs in the country.

A total of Sh17.5 billion was allocated to settle IDPs from the 2007/2008 Post Election Violence.

The Sh1 billion was given to 5,261 households, the last group still in camps.
