Kakamega leaders have asked Co-operatives and MSMEs Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya to push for the completion of stalled projects in the county.

The leaders spoke at a function hosted by Oparanya to disburse Uwezo Fund cheques to beneficiaries at Ikolomani NG-CDF Hall. They included Deputy Governor Ayub Savula, MPs Titus Khamala (Lurambi), Bernard Shinali (Ikolomani), Malulu Injendi (Malava) and Kakamega Woman Rep Elsie Muhanda.

The leaders cited Jamindas-Akatsa road, Lurambi-Nanbacha-Musikoma road, and a gold refinery which are yet to be completed months after being rolled out. Others are Bukhungu Stadium and the Level 6 Kakamega Teaching and Referral Hospital.

Khamala described Oparanya as the bridge between the people of Kakamega and the government.

“We thank President William Ruto for appointing him to the Cabinet. Kakamega has been in darkness but now we have Oparanya to show us the way,” Khamala said.

Shinali said Oparanyah initiated the projects during his tenure as the first Kakamega governor, adding that development in Western had been low since independence.

He asked Oparanya to organise a meeting for all elected leaders to discuss the region's development.

“I want to tell you without fear of contradiction that we are inside this government and there’s no going back. We shall demand our share,” he said.

Savula asked Oparanya to prioritise the region's development.

“The seat you occupy belongs to the people of Western. I appreciate that you have decided to have your first official function in Western because charity begins at home,” he said.

Malulu said Oparanya had been a known performer since his days as Butere MP, a Cabinet minister in the grand coalition government and  Kakamega governor.

Oparanya said women, young people and persons with disabilities will access Sh72 million.
