Kisumu government has won the bid to host this year's Kenya Tourism Week and United Nations World Tourism Day.

The event, themed "Tourism and Peace", will run from September 23 to 27.

It celebrates tourism's role in fostering social, political, cultural and economic development.

Kisumu will take centre stage as it showcases its rich cultural heritage, stunning landscapes and tourist attractions.

Governor Anyang' Nyong’o expressed his excitement ahead of the prestigious event.

"I'm excited to announce that Kisumu County has won the bid to host this year's Kenya Tourism Week and United Nations World Tourism Day," he said.

The event will feature peace caravans, environmental conservation, capacity-building, marathon races, charity walks, football matches, beach events, and cultural festivals.

Networking gala dinners, exhibitions, youth-focused programmes and award ceremonies recognising achievements have also been lined up by the organisers.

"Let’s spread the word and ensure Kisumu shines as a beacon of tourism, culture, and peace".

The Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife invited 47 county governments to submit bids and  Kisumu emerged victorious.

This comes barely a week after the lakeside city successfully hosted the fifth edition of the World Blacks and Africans Festival of Arts and Culture 2024.

The city became a vibrant hub of culture and celebration as people from different countries got an opportunity to trade, network and exchange culture and values.

The event celebrated the continent’s uniqueness and identity while promoting intra-Africa trade.
