Plans are underway to increase services offered at Huduma Centers to improve service delivery to citizens, CS Public Service Justin Mururi has said.
Huduma Kenya was started by the government of former President Uhuru Kenyatta to devolve government services to the people.
In the project, various government services are provided in one building, Huduma Center.
The project objective is to cushion Kenyans from travelling long distances to search for government services in the capital city, Nairobi.
Muturi said the government will increase more services in Huduma Centers to enable citizens to acquire them more easily.
“The government is committed to easing the burden of Kenyans who travel distances to seek services in Nairobi and other towns where the services were centralized. We’re in the process of adding more services to enable citizens to access them,” Muturi said.
Speaking to journalists after touring Huduma Centre in Homa Bay town, Muturi with PS Amos Gathecha and Homa Bay county commissioner Moses Lilan said the government intends to alleviate Kenyans from the burden of travelling long distances in search of services.
The cabinet secretary urged county governments to take their services to Huduma Kenya to improve service delivery to the people.
Muturi argued that the provision of county governments in Huduma centres will cushion citizens from the burden of travelling from one county department to another.
“There is no need for citizens to keep moving from one county office to another in search of services which can be offered at a central place. Let county governments bring their services to Huduma Kenya as well,” he said.
As an effort to reach more citizens on the ground, Muturi said they had also started the Huduma Mashinani programme which involves the provision of mobile services from Huduma centres.
The programme is where government officials from Huduma centres move to interior parts of counties to serve residents occasionally.
“We encourage our workers to continue serving citizens better. I have been impressed with the Huduma Mashinani Programme and I encourage it to continue because we need to reach out to as many citizens with government services as possible,” he added.
Lilan said they are planning to take Huduma services to islands such as Remba, Kiwa, Mfang’ano and Kibuogi among others.
“Huduma centres have revolutionized service delivery to many Kenyans. We’re organizing how to occasionally take the services to our people in islands,” Lilan said
