Professionals in Nyanza are expressing optimism about Raila Amollo Odinga’s chances in the upcoming African Union Commission (AUC) elections, with the crucial vote scheduled for tomorrow in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
According to Joshua Odhiambo Nyamori, an advocate of the High Court, Kenya’s vigorous campaign and lobbying efforts, spearheaded by President William Ruto, are set to yield positive results.
Nyamori pointed to the intensive lobbying by President Ruto, both personally and through Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, which has allowed Raila to engage with several African heads of state.
This , he said, has provided Raila with the opportunity to promote his policies and demonstrate why he is the ideal candidate to lead the African Union.
"I am confident that Raila will triumph over his two opponents," he said emphasizing Raila's charisma and extensive experience, which make him well-suited to lead the AUC, given his strong local, regional, and international standing.
Nyamori added that the entire nation is hopeful for a victory, highlighting that Odinga’s win would place him at the table where critical decisions about Africa’s future are made.
He also noted that Kenya stands to benefit significantly from such a victory.
“Odinga has emerged as an internationally respected and revered leader in his local and international engagements,” Nyamori said.
His sentiments were echoed by Chabi Otieno, Chairman of the Young Lawyers Association, who believes that East Africa is ready to take the lead on the continent.
He commended Kenya for presenting its finest and most dedicated son, Raila, for the position.
Otieno praised President Ruto’s efforts in ensuring that Odinga is recognised as a prominent continental statesman whose wisdom and experience will be an asset to Africa.
