Deputy President Kindiki on Tuesday inspected the ongoing construction of Kabonyo Fisheries Aquaculture and Training Centre in Nyando, Kisumu County.

The Sh1.3 billion project is one of the Government’s flagship projects for the revitalization of the blue economy value chains and improvement of fisher folk and the fisheries sector.

The centre, which is 15% complete will provide 28 million fingerlings annually for aquaculture, cage culture, and restocking of Lake Victoria.

“This project, together with fish landing sites complete with cold rooms, whose construction will commence shortly will modernize the fisheries sector, empower millions of Kenyans in the sector and revitalize the economy of the Counties around Lake Victoria; Migori, Homabay, Kisumu, Siaya and Busia,” Kindiki said.
