TWENTY-two people were seriously injured when two vehicles collided on the Eldoret-Kapsabet road on Sunday.

A Nissan matatu carrying 17 passengers collided with a saloon car near the Mlango area.

The matatu was heading to Kapsabet while the car was on the way to Eldoret town.

Witnesses said the car’s driver lost control and it collided head-on with the matatu.

The drivers of both vehicles were among those critically injured. Most of the victims are hospitalised in Eldoret town.

Rift Valley provincial traffic boss Mary Omari yesterday said officers have been directed to enforce the law and stop all motorists from speeding and overloading.

“We have recorded an increase in accidents this year compared to last year because many drivers still ignore basic traffic regulations” she said.

Omari was speaking during a training for boda boda operators in Eldoret town.

She said most accidents can be avoided if drivers follow the law.
