Baringo Health chief officer Dr Gideon Toromo was arraigned in Kabarnet on Thursday for allegedly assaulting and threatening to kill a senior county staff member.

Toromo denied threatening and attacking payroll manager Francis Ayabei on  November 25.

He appeared before resident magistrate Viennah Amboko who released him on a cash bail of Sh50,000.

The charge sheet reads: “That you around 10am entered the county Governor's offices in Kabarnet town unlawfully holding a sword and uttered threats ‘Leo nitakumaliza - Today I will kill you’ to Ayabei."

It said he assaulted Ababei and caused bodily harm.

His lawyer Solomon Chepkilot said Toromo needs to attend to his duties. He said his client is taking medication, is under close supervision by his personal physician and is not a flight risk.

He said Toromo is a senior citizen and therefore at high risk of contracting Covid-19 in detention.

OCPD Francis Gachoki said his case is being handled by DCI and the court.

The hearing of the case is slated for January 19 next year.
