Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii has set in motion plans to host more than 10,000 delegates who are expected to attend the Council of Governors summit in Eldoret in August.

Bii has been meeting with traders and other stakeholders who will participate in hosting the conference.

The CoG is preparing to carry out a comprehensive assessment of devolution for the last 10 years focusing on successes, gaps and opportunities available for improvement.

The theme of the summit will be “Ten years of devolution: The present and the future”.

“We are preparing to host the meeting which will be the first of its kind in our town, and we are working with all stakeholders to ensure success of the meeting,” Bii said.

Council's CEO Mary Mwiti who has been frequenting Eldoret for preparations said the annual summit will bring together more 10,000 stakeholders who will extensively discuss devolution since its inception.

It will be held between August 15 and 19, 2023.

“We will have expert reports and other research findings on how far we have gone with devolution in the last one decade,” she said.

Mwiti has held several meetings with Bii to asses preparedness for the week-long conference.

She noted that the conference would be an opportunity for the business community, local people, the transport and hospitality sector among other sectors to spur growth of their businesses.

"As business sector, you need to prepare yourselves ahead of the international conference to accommodate the projection of over 10,000 visitors expected during the event," Mwiti said.

She also added that they are working to make the event is one of the most memorable conferences.

Governor Bii affirmed commitment by his team to set up grounds necessary for the business community to be able to host thousands of delegates.

The guests will include foreigners who will be in the country to advice and bench mark on Kenyan's devolution system.

Bii challenged the business community to maximise on the opportunity to be able to expand their business spectrum. "Hosting this year's devolution conference will not only market our county but project our map globally," said the county boss.

County executive for Trade Martha Cheruto said they were holding talks with the hoteliers, hospitality providers, and all service providers in the larger trade sector for early preparations to host the conference.
