Uasin Gishu county is planning to establish a new museum in Eldoret, ahead of the town's elevation to city status.
Chief Officer for Culture Eunice Suter said the county is working with the national government to put up the museum within town.
She said the museum will promote diverse cultural practices in the cosmopolitan county.
Suter said a county cultural music festival is currently taking place at the Homecraft center.
“As a county we value the culture of all communities in Uasin Gishu. Such cultural festivals help to foster unity and cohesion among our people," she said.
The event has brought together more than 50 cultural groups from all wards in the county.
Winners will be awarded and supported to participate in the national festival in Makueni in December.
County Executive Committee Member for Culture, Anthony Sitienei said the cultural event will take four days.
He said the event's main aim is to to showcase the county's rich culture.
Sitienei said the administration is committed to support various groups that will be selected at the national event.
"We are here to celebrate our culture as Africans. We need to showcase our cultural abilities and use the same to foster and strengthen the peace and unity we enjoy in Uasin Gishu," he said.
"I urge those who will go to the national festival, to be our Ambassadors. We will support you in everything that you do," Sitienei said.
Suter said the event will also help nurture talents among the youth.
Culture Director, Mohamed Haji said the county has been taking at least six groups to the national festival very year.
He said more groups will be considered this year should resources be available.
Last year, Uasin Gishu county finished fourth, the lowest ranking in the county's history at the event.
"We want to promise that we will never be at number four again, we have been number two and it's time we took the first position," Haji said.
The senate is currently handling a proposal to elevate Eldoret to a city.
