Caleb Saitabau, 14, risks staying home after his single mother failed to raise the required Sh57,000 fees to enable him join Form 1 at Olkejuado High School.

Ann Kiberenge told the Star she does menial jobs to raise money for food and rent and cannot afford her son’s fees.

Saitabau managed 344 marks and was called to the school located in Kajiado town.

Kimana Chief Joseph Parmuat wrote a letter allowing his mother to collect money from well-wishers but she has not been able to get a single cent.

“I'm the breadwinner of my three children after their father left us about eight years ago. My parents are not in a position to assist. I'm appealing to well-wishers to help me take Saitabau to school,” Kiberenge said.

She said that even if she were to the Sh19,000 required for the first term, she is unable to afford the boy's uniform and a box.

“Sometimes we sleep without eating. The jobs I do include harvesting tomatoes and tilling farms around Kimana, near Loitokitok town and the jobs are not available,” she said.

If touched by Saitabau's plight and wish to help, the school’s bank account details are: Kenya Commercial Bank, Kajiado Branch - Account Number 1293757063.
