Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has said he would summon leaders from the Rift Valley for an explanation of why there is reported political unease in the region.
Gachagua said the region which voted for President William Ruto to a man in the 2022 general election should not be experiencing any political tension.
“I’m going to invite all leaders from South and North Rift Valley to get a better explanation why some people from the region are heckling leaders in presidential functions,” Gachagua said.
The Deputy President was speaking in Kapsabet during the enthronement and consecration of the Right Rev. David Moses Serem as the new Bishop of the African Inland Church Nandi region on Sunday.
Gachuagua added, “What we saw in Kericho and Bomet during a presidential working tour in the two counties is disheartening and must stop since all the positive things for the tour were overshadowed by the negative.”
The DP told leaders from the region to stop supremacy battles among themselves since the 2027 general elections are still far.
“Why should one hire youths to heckle those in office…if you think they have failed, wait untill elections are called and vote them out,” Gachagua said.
“I know you are asking for implementation of projects launched by former President Uhuru Kenyatta and which were shelved in 2018 after the handshake, we are looking into them as a government,” the DP said.
Gachagua who was accompanied by several legislators among them Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen and Nandi Governor Stephen Sang said Kenya's economy was improving.
Other senior government officials present included Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service Felix Koskei, MPs Julius Meli(Tinderet), Abraham Kirwa(Mosop), Paul Biego(Chesumei), Benard Kitur(Nandi-Hills) and Nandi Woman Representative Cynthia Muge.
