Governor Jonathan Bii says he is proud of his free milk feeding programme which has increased enrolment in Early Childhood Development (ECD) schools in Uasin Gishu by more than 10 per cent.

Bii visited ECD schools in the region where he expressed satisfaction that the milk programme had attracted more children to the schools and helped improve their health within the last two years.

Before the milk programme was launched, ECD units in the county had about 40,000 learners but an additional 4,000 pupils have since joined the classes due to the free milk supply every Tuesday and Thursdays.

The governor says the milk programme also known as Maziwa ya Koti has benefitted learners in 676 centres across the county.

The governor visited the Pioneer ECD unit where he distributed milk to children. His administration has confirmed permanent terms for all ECD teachers in the county.

“Governor Bii has achieved a lot in reforming various sectors in our county and we urge residents to support all his initiatives because it’s evident that he will transform the county for the benefit of residents," Leting said.

Leting said residents were happy that the governor had confirmed all ECD teachers to be hired on permanent and pensionable terms. As soon as he took over last year Governor Bii confirmed the 1,274 ECD teachers in the region.

Leting said residents of the county were also benefitting from better healthcare services following the renovation of the Uasin Gishu county referral hospital and ensuring that all county hospitals directly receive medical supplies from Kemsa.

Residents of Uasin Gishu, Leting said, fully support Bii to deliver on his Nguzo Kumi (ten-point) agenda for the county and he needs support from all residents.

Other achievements by Bii’s administration include the improvement of more than 1,400 kilometres of roads the tarmacking of new roads within Eldoret town and an increase in own source more than Sh1.4 billion.
