A Narok court has found a 24-year-old woman guilty of defiling a 15-year-old boy and handed her 20 years imprisonment.

Mary Yamati Njoki defiled the minor on January 4, 2023, in Fanaka, Narok Central subcounty.

She appeared before Narok principal magistrate Phyllis Shinyada.

Njoki was arrested on January 21, 2023, and held in custody as the case proceeded in court.

She was charged with two counts that included defiling a minor and performing an indecent act with a minor.

Njoki had pleaded not guilty but after five witnesses gave their testimonies, the court found her guilty.

In mitigation, the young woman pleaded for leniency, saying she has two children who entirely depend on her.

The principal magistrate reiterated that adults ought to protect children against any form of harm and the offence committed was grievous and against the law.

She sentenced the woman to 20 years imprisonment, saying the law does not provide for a fine option in defilement cases.
