A cloud of grief has descended upon Sibaik village in Bureti Sub-County, Kericho County, following the grim discovery of two children's bodies wrapped in a blanket.

According to residents who spoke to Kenya News Agency, the remains of the children were found by a middle-aged man who was constructing a fence around his farm.

He detected a foul smell and upon further investigation, unearthed the bodies buried in a shallow pit nearby.

Area Chief Robert Rugut confirmed that preliminary investigations indicate the bodies of a 6-year-old boy and an 8-year-old girl were buried in the shallow grave approximately one week ago.

The Chief acknowledged that the deceased children are believed to be from the same family where their bodies were discovered.

Rugut urged residents to remain calm as law enforcement officers continue their investigations, assuring them that those responsible will face the full force of the law.

"Their mother is suspected to be involved in their deaths," Rugut stated, emphasizing the need for patience until the investigation is complete.

The Chief commended the swift response of residents in reporting the incident and encouraged continued vigilance in reporting such cases for prompt action.

The bodies of the minors are currently undergoing preservation at the Kapkatet Mortuary pending further investigations.
