Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii has ordered a freeze on unnecessary expenditures by his county following a budget cut to devolved units.

Bii ordered an end to serving tea at the county offices and pledged to withdraw his chase car among other austerity measures to cut expenditure.

“We will no longer entertain wastage like office tea and county cars loitering. We now have to live within our means,” he said.

He said the withdrawal of the Finance Bill by President William Ruto had led to budget cuts to counties hence the need for austerity measures in all sectors.

The governor said there was no money to waste and ordered all his officers to be accountable for their actions failure to which they would be held accountable.

Bii said he would officially communicate the austerity measures to all his officers, adding that he did not need unnecessary escorts while working in the county.

“County executives, chief officers and other staff must now know that I will not carry anyone’s cross. If things get to the worst then I will act," Bii said.

The county boss said he had forgiven those who raided and burned part of his offices during the recent Gen Z protests.

He said goons took advantage of the protests to target the county offices.

He alleged that there was a secret hand who organised and coordinated the attack on the county facilities.

Bii who was speaking during prayers at the county headquarters, just fell short of the naming the individual.

“That person has dared me and let me warn him that I am ready for a face off.”

The county boss questioned why the attackers targeted the county ICT department where some computers were destroyed.

“From what happened, it's obvious that someone jealous was behind the attack on the county,” Bii said.

The national library and the county court along with the ICT department were among facilities damaged during the protests.

“I wonder how those who did it just looked for the ICT department and not my office,”he said.

The governor said he had in the recent past talked to the Gen Z who were equally angry with the attack on the public facilities.
