Four dead, one missing after landslides hit villages in Baringo

Four people have been confirmed dead while one is reported missing after mudslides hit villages in Baringo North.

The landslides occurred in Kasisiit area.

Red Cross officials and other rescuers are on site combing through the debris.

Teams of police officers have also been deployed in the hilly area where several families have also fled from their homes fearing more landslides.

The incident has been attributed to heavy rains pounding the region.

Police have confirmed the incident.

Baringo County Commissioner Stephen Kutwa said two adults and two minors died while two others remain unaccounted for.

Kutwa said one family was evacuated including a girl who had climbed a tree and was rescued later by some residents.

We have so far recovered three bodies and we are working to retrieve the other one," Kutwa said.

Kutwa said the most affected areas included villages in Kabartonjo division where there had also been heavy flooding.

"Rescue missions are still going on we are working to account for everyone," he said.

He said affected families will be moved to Kasasit Primary where they will be assisted until the floods subside.
