Eldoret town remained calm on Thursday with normal business running smoothly and no signs of protests.

Armed regular police and GSU teams patrolled all streets in the town where preparations are in top gear ahead of elevation to city status next week.

Uasin Gishu County police commander Benjamin Mwanthi said security was normal in the region.

“People are going on with their business as usual and we have no reports of disruptions anywhere,” Mwanthi said.

There is enhanced security at Moi Girls High School which is hosting the Kenya Music Festivals with over 130,000 students and visitors in the town for the event.

Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii was expected to meet some of the Gen Z youth from the county to talk about their inclusion in county operations.

A representative of the youth Paul Ruto said they were happy with the changes so far made by President William Ruto in government.

“With the changes in government, we are hoping for the best as youths. We hope there will be efforts to create more job opportunities for the youth,” Ruto said.
