A Primary school teacher has been killed by a stray elephant at Miti Tatu village in Kericho county.

The village is located in Kipkelion East constituency where witnesses said the teacher was taking a video of the animal which was among two that had strayed.

Londiani OCPD Agnes Kunga said the deceased was a teacher at Dr Koech Primary School.

The police boss said they had been alerted of stray elephants in the area and alerted KWS officers to move to the area and control the animals.

“We also deployed police to help in controlling residents and taking the animals away from the village," Kungu said.

The deceased was among villagers who were watching as KWS officers were driving the elephants back to the forest.

She said the deceased was caught up by one of the elephants as it was running away from the villagers

“The deceased aged 42 followed the KWS team and was taking a video of one of the animals which turned and attacked him," Kungu said.

Witnesses said the angry animal tossed the teacher in the air before trampling on him and killled him on the spot.

Fearful residents have asked the KWS to remove the elephants which are still stuck in a blue gum plantation in the area

The OCPD said the body of the deceased had been taken to a morgue in Londiani.
