Police in Trans Nzoia are hunting for suspects involved in the rape and murder of an 18-year-old girl who was due to join college.

The deceased has been identified as 18-year-old Eunice Akinyi.

Her naked body was found in a maize farm in the Kolongolo area within the Kwanza constituency after she went missing for several days.

The place where the body was found is less than a kilometre from their home.

DCI officers have been combing the area to identify and arrest those involved.

Area Chief Alex Wakabete said they were working with the security team to trace the killers.

“DCI officers have been here several times, and those involved will be brought to book so that her family can get justice," Wakabete said.

Her parents, Beatrice Barasa and Robert Masika, said she had left home to go and collect her school leaving certificate at Kesse Secondary School to enable her to join college in Makueni, but she never returned.

She was scheduled to report to college in Makueni to undertake a course in beauty.

Beatrice said her daughter was found murdered by unknown people who strangled her and left her naked body in a maize plantation.

“She was found with her hands and legs tied with some marks on the neck, and she was completely naked. My daughter died a painful death and I don’t know why they did that to her," her mother said.

She said Akinyi was excited and looking forward to joining college, and the death had robbed the family of a pillar whose young life had been cut short by evil people.

“My daughter had not offended anyone, and we wonder why someone would kill her in such a manner. I plead for justice and ask the government to bring to book those involved," the mother said.

A postmortem will be done on her body this week.

The area police boss said investigations into the matter were going on to ensure those involved are brought to book.
