Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii hosted a farewell party for his former deputy John Barorot who resigned three weeks ago for the private sector.

This came as the county assembly yesterday vetted Tembelio MCA Evans Kapkea who is Bii's nominee for deputy governor post.

Bii nominated Kapkea, 34, in a move aimed at including the youth in his administration.

He also wanted to have residents of Tembelio ward represented in his government.

During the farewell party, Bii praised Barorot for his dedication and the strides made during his tenure.

"Barorot has had an illustrious leadership path. We thank him for his great service to the residents of Uasin Gishu.

His new role is a testament to his hard work, and we wish him well," Bii said.

Barorot said he was greatly honoured to have worked with Bii and added that he would still be available to offer any support or advice to the county whenever required to do so.

“Governor Bii remains my long term friend as well as all residents of this county which is also my home,” he said.

Barorot was accompanied by his wife Esther Chumo.

Uasin Gishu assembly majority leader Julius Sang emphasised the importance of a thorough vetting process for incoming DG.

"As MCA for Tembelio, he is one of us at the assembly but for this slot, we will be thorough in our vetting," said Sang.

Bii explained why he nominated Kapkea saying his main focus was on fair representation for Tembelio ward in his administration.

"Of all the wards in Moiben, it is only Tembelio that had not been well represented in my administration. I thought it wise to have their MCA represent the interests of his people as my deputy," Bii said.

Amid speculation and lobbying for the deputy governor role, Bii said he was keen to ensure balanced representation in his administration.

"Many prominent names were being discussed on social media, but I chose to give a chance to this young leader with a bright future. I am committed to mentoring him well,” the governor said.

Bii said he would work closely with Kapkea to ensure he fully implements his Nguzo Kumi (10-point) development agenda for the county.
