A court in Nakuru has suspended warrants of arrest that had been issued against Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii and his former Deputy John Barorot.

The warrants had been issued after the two failed to appear to testify in a case in which Senator Jackson Mandago is charged with three others over the Sh1 billion Finland education fiasco.

Senior Principal Magistrate Peter Ndege issued the warrants when the case came up for hearing.

However, the governor's lawyers, led by Bernard Kipngetich, later went back to the court and convinced the magistrate to suspend the arrest orders.

“We will be back in court on Wednesday to canvass about the warrants to be fully lifted," Kapngetich said.

He said the governor did not defy court orders but was held up and that the county boss was ready to fully cooperate with the court.

Earlier, when the governor and his deputy failed to appear, the prosecution led by Angeline Chinga said the two had been bonded and asked to be in court but they were absent.

The defence in the case led by lawyer Stephen Bungei demanded the warrant of arrest be issued, arguing that the two ignored court orders.

Ndege had agreed with the defence and issued the warrant.
