Trans Nzoia revenue officers have taken oath of office and reaffirmed their commitment to serve with integrity and stop corruption.

Governor George Natembeya said the officers play a critical role and must ensure the county collects enough revenue.

He said officers found engaging in graft will carry their own cross.

“As revenue officers, you play a major role. If you collect enough revenue then we will develop. I have subjected you to the oath to show you how serious we are," Natembeya said.

He said the county is facing a budget deficit of about Sh400 million that could affect service delivery and implementation of projects.

The budget shortfall is as a result of reduced funding from Treasury following the withdrawal of the Finance Bill, 2024 by President Willam Ruto.

Natembeya asked workers to avoid corruption and wastage of resources.

He directed the department of finance to pay suppliers.

Chief officer Emmanuel Masungo cited technical challenges, but said the funds will be disbursed by next week.

He said Sh3.5 million had been paid and the remaining Sh71 million will be paid next week.

Natembeya directed that the street cleaning function be transferred from the environment department to Kitale municipality.

Chief officers also committed to fulfilling their roles and responsibilities by signing performance contracts.

Masungo(finance),Sammy Sichangi (governance), Dr Wanjala Majimoto (livestock), Patrick Osoro (agriculture) and  Philip Kapten (public service management) are some of the officers who signed the contract.
